Arka POD drives
POD motors can be installed as a rudder propeller or as a so-called fixed drive (Sail drive). To prevent impact noise and resonance, Arka recommends equipping the rudder shaft with rubber bearings. After all, it is often the disturbance of the flow that can produce annoying noises, but it also dampens vibrations.
Seal
The submersible motor is equipped with a special mechanical shaft seal. This shaft seal has high wear resistance and pressure resistance. To protect it from external influences, it is protected by a labyrinth and an oil/dirt barrier.
Material
The POD motor is freshwater resistant. By placing the right anode on the engine for your sailing area, a high level of corrosion protection is obtained, which extends the lifespan of both the engine and the ship.
Efficiency
Electric propulsion is one of the most efficient forms of propulsion for a ship. The efficiency is obtained by a correct combination of engine, speed and propeller. It all sounds very logical, but to achieve this efficiency, a lot of testing is required. We have succeeded in developing electric outboard motors that, in addition to having the highest efficiency, are also among the quietest. Arka POD motors are built according to the direct drive principle, which means that the driven shaft is the same as the propeller shaft. As a result, there are no noise-producing components present in the engine. By using an Industrial grade motor controller, the conversion losses are minimal.
Plug & Play
The structure of an Arka POD motor is modular. In addition to the use of dimensions, which is common in shipbuilding, the connections have also been standardized. After purchase, all you have to do is install the engine on your ship, install the batteries and connect them. Commissioning the motor is then simply connecting the plugs and switching on the ignition.
Sustainability
Arka POD engines cannot pollute the water and have no carbon and nitrogen oxide emissions. They are among the cleanest engines in the world. The lubricants that are used come from the food industry and therefore meet the highest possible requirements. It is for this reason that many drinking water reservoirs are only sailed with Arka drives.
Power
Once you have assessed the weight of your vessel, the choice of propulsion is as follows:
Install at least 1.2 kW per 1000 kg. Ship’s weight to be able to sail at a speed of 70 percent of the hull speed. Installing more than 3.5 kW per 1000 kilos (this is sufficient to sail at hull speed) is not necessary.
